Sinai - Ban on foreign vehicles?
 

I heard through the grape-vine this week that the Egyptians are banning foreign vehicles driving in the Sinai, presumably as a knee-jerk response to the recent kidnappings. Can anyone verify the truth of this rumour? If it's true - what about vehicles driving through too Israel or Jordan - any planned 'secure' routes?

Jaunary 2013 I rode form Egypt to Israel the only one border crossing which is Taba, border is nice and esay very profesional for Egypt standarts.

I'll answer my own question, just in case anyone else stumbles across this. We & some friends drove Suez, Sharm el Sheikh, St Katherine's, Taba - no problems at all. The police stop you occasionally & half-heartedly tell you that you must have an escort. We just said 'no thanks' - they they looked relived & waved us on!

The rumours were just that... rumours.
