Secure Parking in Beyazit/Sultanahmet - Istanbul

Hi Guys

I will be travelling by road from Dubai to Spain in Nov-Dec via Iran and Turkey.

I want to spend a few days in Istanbul on the way and as you know a fully loaded LR Defender is not a town friendly car so, I will be looking for somewhere secure and convenient to the above areas to park it. Is street parking secure there or,can you suggest a hotel with parking or,other solution in the area?

Tony,
I spent a week there a while back, without a vehicle of any kind, and I was impressed with how law abiding the central old part of the city appears to be, both day and night. The back streets in the old area are very narrow though and delivery trucks, vans etc just park anywhere to offload. Once they are in position they don't move for anything or anyone.
If you search online for specific hotels with garage facilities I guess you will find one or more, but the bigger international chains are more likely to have room for vehicles. In general they are located out of the old city centre and some of them have good views of the sea of Mamara. A lot of hotels will give a discount on their stated rates for payment in cash and the Euro is widely accepted.

Hope this helps. Enjoy Istanbul, it is a very lively city and not at all intimidating.

There area multitude of lots down there in which to park. I had an ice cream truck that was 19'9 long, 7'6 wide and 9'9 tall and we parked it down there for a couple nights and days no problem. you should have no issues finding parking. it can get pricy.

Also, if you are all uncomfortable, there is always the option of parking at the airport and taking the metro in. It is a quick ride and they have very secure/safe parking there.

We were just in Istanbul with our camper and if you head down the kennedy caddesi not sure on spelling but it is the coast road around sulthanamet. Look on your right for a outdoor football pitch and they let campers stay in the car park with Electric and access to the WC and showers for €20 per night. 24 hr security and very short walk to the blue mosque
Cheers

Little late reply, but I concur with Jimed. We just stayed there for 3 nights for EUR 15 per night. Great spot with Bosporus views; 800 metres from the Blue Mosque. Close to the lighthouse, next to the soccer field.

Anacondor.
Is it possible to pitch a tent at that location? My wife and I will be in Istanbul this summer and are looking for a good place to spend a few days and enjoy local sites.

No, pitching a tent is not possible; it's like a parking place (no grass, only asphalt). Good luck in Istanbul, it's a nice city.

Thank you for the info. I am looking forward to seeing Istanbul.

Co-ordinates?

Sounds great.

We're travelling down from Sofia in a couple of days, and looking for somewhere to pitch the roof tent (weather permitting!)

Does anyone have gps co-ordinates for this one?

Found it!

We found this in the end. Is very easy (the football pitch is obvious), but the GPS co-ordinates are: N 41 deg 00.140 E 028 deg 58.062.

It is mostly asphalt, but there is enough grass to pitch a couple of 2-3 man tents if you wanted.

As a note, this places' location is fantastic, but noisy next to a busy road, and the showers etc are mixed (they are the changing rooms for the football pitch), which my girlfriend found a bit unsettling.

Otherwise a great find though!
