Rescue mission to Jordan...

Greetings all,
am flying to Jordan at the end of the month to rescue a friends bike and ride it to Germany, (a long story). The bike has been there for about 2yrs, and we are expecting some sort of penalty for it overstaying it's 'travel ticket'. Has anyone had any experience in this area, or know of anyone else? ( Been to Jordanian Embassy in Oz, but they can't help, they being Immigration as opposed to Customs).
Q2; Some people say there are bugger all ATMs in Syria. True or False?
Happy travels, Boot.

The standard for overstay in 1JD per day. So that would make like 700 JD in your case. :( Try to negotiate it at the central customs office in Amman, near downtown (I might help you with the GPS coordinates after July 20th when I return home), opening in the morning Sun-Thu.

Good luck!

Hey, can't really say anything about the customs issue, although I'm wondering what the paperwork for the bike was. Maybe you could have lost the blue import card? I wonder what the penalty for that would be. Also I found that no one was really too keen to stamp the bike out, but that was in Aqueba port and it was all a big mess.

About the ATMs I had a problem at the border with Syria, where the ATM had apparently run out of cash, but kept coming up with lame excuses. In Amman, the ATM of the Arab bank worked without problems.

All the Best

Excellent! Thanks everyone ,lots of info to think about. I tend to think it will all go OK, and there are a couple of comments amongst that lot that I'm sure will make a difference. 'Respect' and 'patience will go a long way me thinks.....
Cheers, sounds like fun........ Bootlace.:thumbup1:

Plenty of ATM's in Syria - certainly in the towns anyway. I had no problems when I was there last December/ January. Larger hotels have them in the lobby too. Good luck
