Renting a motorcycle in Syria?

Hello, we are planning a trip through Turkey and Syria. We will rent a bike in Ankara and ride to Syrian border.

I am told we can't cross the border with the rented bikes.

Any experiences with this?

Do you know of any motorcycle rentals in Syria (Aleppo)?

Thanks,

Saskatoon :scooter:

Hi ;

There is no possibility of renting a motorcyle rental in Syria.

As for border issue ... it wont be a problem in Turkey... but for Syria, i dont know.

Have a nice trip ,

Thanks for your reply... Anyone know of a rental shop in Turkey that will let you cross the border with a motorcycle? Any experiences with that?

Hi Saskatoon,

As previous reply you will not find anyone in Turkey who will let you take their bike to Syria - you need a carnet for a start.

You could do the trip in reverse maybe and buy a bike in Syria - you can get a Chinese Honda CG125 copy for as little as 300 euros. You should then be able to take that into Turkey but you might have problems leaving Turkey without the bike as they will stamp it into your passport. Otherwise you could just buy a bike in Syria ride it around and sell it after finishing instead of renting.

Hope that gives some inspiration.

Cheers

Richard

ps if renting in Turkey try it from somewhere on the Med like Antalya rather than Ankara as there is a lot more choice and more price competition.
