Hi there,
if restrictions are still running on, you must should try to go at the local national oil company office, as i did it in orumiye, on last august. they'll probably shake you, from an office to another in a couple of hours, but at the least, you'll have a card (or two it depend by the need) in your hand.
i had it two, payng 40 eu. for both. then, with it go to the gas station, put the card onto the pump cardslide, refueling, and pay for each litre brought,
1000 Rials. beware! you can have 24 lt./day only, with one card. don't get wrong! or otherwise, if you have a lot of time to spend in Persia, reach the gas station, and ask to the locals to purchase it by them. last chance, as a dutch guy did, when i met him in esfahan, wait! someone will approaching you, asking "may you need a help? ", they'll give it to you for free...

Petrol Card

I rode through Iran last June & July when the card was first introduced. On arrival at Bandar - e - Abbas, I was told by the officials that I had to get one from the British embassy in Teheran, which as you can imagine was not an attractive option for me. I travelled without one and found it was no problem as the pump attendants and / or local drivers would offer to let me use their card and tae part of their ration. To fill up my GS Adventure from empty never cost more than a dollar and count on at least one hour for each fill up as everyone was so friendly and informative......

Check my blog - motociclistascondoscojones if you want more detail. I hope this helps,

Cheers,

No need!

I crossed Iran just over tow weeks ago. All petrol station attendants heve a cerd to sell petrol at non-subsidiesed prices. They will charge 400 tuman per litre which I think comes out cheaper then buying a card and paying 100 tuman.

That is great news, we are heading for Iran on tuesday morning, and was concerned about the petrol.
We will arrive at Bandar e Lenge, and drive in the direction of Turkey.

Petrol in Iran

I wen from Bandar Lengeh last month to Maku and didn't need a petrol card anywhere along the way. I just got to a station and asked for fuel, said I had no card because was a tourist and the attendant would fill my tank up and charged me a premium. Other places people lent me their ration cards and I paid Iranian local rates. Either way I did oky without a card. Make sure you fill up in UAE before you leave becauseI didn't see station for a long time and I also filled up at every station I saw as in places they can be few and far between.

I can confirm this, no need for a petrol card anymore. We were charged 4x the normal price, but it was still affordable at $0.40/liter ($0.10 the normal price)
