Oman to Yemen overland
 

Hi all,
is it currently possible to ride from Oman to Yemen (Sanaa) ? are there any forbidden zone on the way, or any place where one needs a military escort ?

PS: yes, I'm aware that situation can change very quickly

North/west Yemen is definitely risky with the war going on between the saudi forces and the yemeni rebels. News is that a truce/ceasefire will be agreed but don't count on it.

Are you planning to reach the west coast and get a transport to Africa by sea ? Not aware of the eastern/southern regions of Yemen but it does not look like a good place to be caught in trouble at the moment.

When I was there about 2 years ago it was still "quiet". Even then I was escorted and there were off-limits areas. In my mind the bigger headache is that extremists are targeting tourists now, and as a biker you stick out. I would think twice before going there now, but if you avoid the Northern areas, i.e. try to stay close to the coast, then maybe it's ok. Maybe not... :funmeterno:

Indeed, the final target is Africa, but I really want to see Yemen. The situation may be better next winter, Inshallah.. thanks for the tips.
