Looking for day trips, maybe overnighters.........

In UAE. I live in Abu Dhabi and ride with a bunch of riders here (HD's) and want to start planning some rides for us on the wekends, day trips mostly but few overnighters.......

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Glad I found this place, will need it for my Cape Town trip next year!

When I lived there( Dubai), we used to do loads of trips to Umm al quain, Hatta Fort, Oman - Ras Al Had.

I was out there for 18 years, all of our trips were in 4x4's thou

Oman

Hey Jim,

There are heaps of guys riding around your parts. I lived in Oman for some time and loved the mountains (depends what you ride tho) Head over to Oman through Hatta and turn right at Sohar round about (At Lulu) and head that way. There is a turn half way up so take the right fork and head toward Nizwa. One of the best ranges and new mountain roads in Oman!!.......

Good luck mate.

Cheers
Ivan

Hi there

I used to go out to theOman border area at al-ain, and go to Djebel Hafit-a mountain on the border.

Good roads!

A lot more possibilities are opened up if you have a bike with even basic offside abilities. There are some great trails through the various wadis in 'UAE Off-Road' which is an excellent publication with GPS waypoints and satellite photos.

If you're limited to tarmac, consider a trip out to Moreeb Dune, Liwa, where some of this year's Desert Challenge is currently taking place.

There is a tarmac road cutting right through some amazing scenery and it's the closest you can get to crossing the empty quarter without actually leaving the black stuff. I highly recommend it.

It can be done in a day but there are plenty of places where you can pitch camp for the night. There is also accommodation available down in Liwa. Don't forget the car museum on the way back.

OK, then what about the newish coast road along to Khassab in the Musandam?
Or the twisty, tarmac road from Hatta to Kalba mangroves?
(If you fit some knobbies to your Harley and take the tassles off the footpegs I can suggest a few more) :cool4:
