Jordon and neighbours - bike tours?

I am an Australian motorcycle magazine editor, interested in any information or links that HU riders might be able to share.
Am looking at the possibility of a ride which includes the Dead Sea and the City of Petra, in Jordan. It can start and stop elsewhere. Are there any tour companies in the middle east which offer off road motorcycle tours? Or is it a case of find some riding mates and make your own way there? I have looked at the other posts which include Jordan but information on guided rides/tours isn't there. Maybe it doesn't exist? If so, any info on bike hire (Australia is a long way from Amman).

Hi and welcome to HUBB.

As far as I know bikes are illegal in Jordan, so no bikes for rent and no tours. (I possibly confuse this with Syria, somebody correct me...). Tourists get an exemption.

You could rent trail bikes in Turkey, no problem, but you will very likely not be able to take them out of the country. If the rental co. agrees and gives you the necessary authorisation paper in the form required by Syrian and Jordanian customs, then it might work. Try searching HUBB and the Net for bike rentals in Turkey. Forget renting in the EU, I can't imagine that they will let you take the bike out of the EU.

Another possibility would be to borrow (or rent) bikes privately. You still need the paper authorising you to take the bike across borders, but individuals will be more flexible.

Getting to the middle east needs a mode change.
It is 3rd world way of thinking.
You can't just ride a bike in Jordan. you can do it if you belong to the royal family or you are a policeman. you can't enter Jordan riding a rented bike. But...
You Can:
Ride in Jordan when crossing from Syria to Egypt. and on the way visit Petra. You can buy a used bike in Europe (your name hase to be in the papers as the woner). and go via Turkey to Syria and Jordan, then enter Israel near Jerusalem or go south and cross the red sea into Sinai-Egypt.
It is the only way I know. or try asking Edelwise.

There are a number of places where you can rent dirt bikes in the southern sinai region of Egypt. If you paid a large enough deposit, they may let you ride it to Nuweiba, jump on the ferry across to Aqaba and ride from there. This shouldn't be too hard, as no carnet is needed for Jordan and you can arrange a temporary import permit at the border. Getting back into Egypt could be a little tricky as customs is a bitch, but with a Egyptian registered vehicle it may be smoother.

You didn't mention if you want to ride off-road or not. Just be aware that the Jordanian authorities try and restrict off-road riding in the protected area of Wadi Rum. It is possible to do it, but you will need to dodge anyone official looking. The area around here is spectacular for experienced desert riders.

For rentals the only place I know that would be contactable on the web is probably Sahara Express, a KTM dealer / renter in Sharm El Sheihk. Try a google search. Otherwise most of the other rental places are small backyard operators in Dahab or Sharm, but some have reasonable 600cc thumpers and old 250 or 400XRs.

Thank you for the tips people. I can see this is going to take a lot more investigation. My main plan would be to do as much off road as possible. I need to try find a mad local who might act as guide... LOL

Motorcylces in Jordan

Hi..

Following update in motorcycle situation in Jordan..

The Royal Jordanian Motorcylce Club has been established resently to regulate the use of motorcylces in Jordan. To own a motorcylce in jordan, it is madatory to apply and get accepted to the club. I would estimate the number of memebrs currently run in thousands. Membership is open to all, following an application process. RJMC are available for contact on Facebook and they will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

The following is a link for an travel agent which used to organize motorcylce tours inside jordan. I think they have stopped renting bikes recently due to some law changes. you can contact them and find out about the latest info.

Motorcycle (discover Jordan

Also MotoDiscovery organises motorcylce tours which include Jordan in its destinations. check below link..

Middle East Motorcycle Tour Schedule - MotoDiscovery

Motorcylce shops are also currently available mostly for HD, Honda and Kawasaki brands. I know the address of the Honda motorcylce dealer, as i have resently bought a motocycle from them.
