Jordan - one for the ladies

...so I see bike hire in Jordan is not going to happen!

We are still going, and will be staying in Aqaba most of the time. Does anyone know which beaches are ok to swim at (as two western females) and what is the etiquette around swimwear - we do not want to offend anyone or get harassed! we are also going to the Dead Sea, can anyone recommend beaches to go to there, as we don't want to pay to go to resort beaches.

Any other tips or advice on Jordan would be much appreciated!

(we are going for a week, flying into Amman and then hiring a car and touring around)

ta!

The side of the Dead Sea is basically one long beach with some bits more attractive and/or accessible than others.

I've floated in it the cheapskate way (stopping the bike and just going in without facilities) as well as the more conventional way at a resort.

I'd recommend a resort for several reasons:
(1) It's really salty - don't touch your eyes by accident - and you will really appreciate having a shower afterwards.
(2) The (busy) road is not that far away so you're more likely to get hassled or stared at away from a resort.
(3) You will also have some shade etc. which means you can stay longer and enjoy the experience.

There's a busy, crowded beach in the middle of Aqaba where the large flag flies. You could probably try there for starters until you find somewhere better.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
