ISRAEL (Haifa) to GREECE (Lavrio) shipping info March 2014

Just loaded the car in the ship. African adventure is over ;-(

Cost for one 4X4: 700 euro (including clearance in both sides).
Port fees: 1327 Shekel (app 275 euros/ 385 USD) if the car is up to 4 tones
Cabin: 300 euros per person including 3 meals.

Shipping company: SALAMIS LINES (Cypriot owned)
Shipping agent in Haifa: ROSENFELD Shipping (their offices is across GATE 5 of Haifa port/ also across the Main Railway Station). You talk with Alicia or Rasheed. Contact emails: alicia@rosenfeld.net, reservations@rosenfeld.net

Departures from Haifa: Every Tuesday
Arrivals to Lavrio: Friday morning

Lavrio port to Athens downtown is about one hour driving if you take the Attiki Odos Highway (including tolls ;-( ). There are also buses from the city center to the port. Cost is app. 5 euros pp.

We did not board in the same ship. Flying was much cheaper (half the price).
We booked tickets with Turkish Airlines for 320 euros (2 people). Turkish Airlines and Aegean Airlines is by far the cheapest way to fly from Greece to Israel.

Safe travels to everybody.

Cheers

Nikos

Actually, we come from Greece. After two years in Africa, we feel that we deserve a good break.

The plan says that we want to sell the car, the roof top tent and some of the equipment and so raise some money.

We have a red Vespa in our garage and she will probably carry us in Americas hopefully next June. We will see.

We really want to buy a van (Toyota Hiace) but we miss the cash.. if we manage to find some good money, we will go for the van, otherwise we will keep travelling with the vespa!

So if you're coming back from Africa, did you take the same route (Greece-Israel) for these trips in one direction and/or another?

If yes I have some questions for your enter in Egypt (and Sudan?) after Israel (and/or for your return from Egypt).

Roro,

We entered in Africa from Morocco so we cant provide any feedback about the North to South route through Israel.

But in Israel, the situation was a bit annoying. We went through three "questioning" processes in Taba (land border), at the Haifa port (during the loading of the car) and at the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv (we flew to Athens).

Everybody was very kind and polite but it was quite hard for them to understand what a traveler is doing in Africa for two years (why? how? who?). Besides that, the sudanese visa always make things more inconvenient.

We met a fantastic Irish guy with a BMW bike in Sudan that he did the route you need info. His blog is corktocape.blogspot.com (Irish, i hope you dont mind to publish your blog). His is super helpful. He will give you the latest update about the route Israel-Jordan-Egypt-Sudan.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Nikos
