Iran - Green card necessary?

Hi,

I somewhere read that for Iran, one needs a green card. Is that right? Or is it possible to get insurance at the border (coming from Turkey)?

I don't think it's "necessary" because residents in the UAE can't get one and are allowed entry from the south.

As always, if they absolutely want you have have something, they'll sell it to you...

They issue their own insurance at the border. Just in case you can take it with you, since you need it for Europe anyway.

Ride safe, Margus

I got mine at the border. If you cross at Dogubayazit the insurance office is on the left at the bottom of the hill after you come out of the customs post.

Matt :)

Do you remember how much you paid for it? Is it obligatory?

Not necessary, but if you have one thats valid for Iran, why buy more insurance?

You could ask:
Green Card Bureau of Iran
c/o BIMEH MARKZI IRAN
72 Africa Avenue,
19157, POB 19395
5588 Tehran
:smile2:

Pretty sure it was obligatory, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it's important to have as if you do have an accident that is your fault, you need to be able to compensate the 'victim'. Not being able to could land you in trouble and Iran has a pretty punitative legal system (currently in the top three when it comes to executions, I think!) Also remember that due to all sorts of reasons, cultural and due to language difficulties, foriegners are often blamed for accidents that are not their fault.

I seem to remember it was about forty quid for a months worth (which was the minimum).

Matt :)

Buy it!

I had a car accident in Saudi. No insurance. I can be happy nobody was injured by my fault, I can be happy the company whose truck I hit didn't have any claims towards me, I can be happy I could get out of the country after ten days.

BUY IT!

I think insurance is compulsory in Iran, but I'm certain that the GC isn't. I have been through 3 times and nobody asked about insurance.

Iran green card

I travelled through Iran from Pakistan to Turkey last year. No green card requested. Lovely country and friendly people.

Regards,
Mark.
