Scotland to Egypt route help

Hola!

The bike is sorted and the list, the Visas are on their way and the list of things to pack is almost complete. The final part of my prep is to get a specific route sorted out. My plan is to ride from Scotland down to the south of Italy and then jump on a ferry to Greece. From Greece I'll cross Turkey, Syria and Jordan before crossing into Egypt. Just now I am trying to get some suggestions of places that I really shouldn't miss seeing on this trip as I am not sure when I will be back. Total journey time is expected to be a couple of months (including the ride back) so time is on my side. Suggestions would be gratefully received.

Also, has anyone tried to get a transit Visa for Libya? I have read of one person who was succesful and I like the idea of going from Egypt into Libya then onto Tunisia and the South of France.

Thanks,

Liam

Lybia option for Egypt

I was told that a visa to Lybia should not be a problem but am not really sure. We had also planned to go from Turkey thru Syria and Jordan but with the mess in the middle east now I'm not sure.

We enter Mongolia today and plan to ride west and then enter Russia. Because of bike problems we may have to take the train to Moscow and then head south to Turkey where I plan to inquire re the Lybian visa. I have already paid for the Carnet for Egypt and do not want to miss riding there.

If you get any info, pls send a private msg because we will be out of touch for the next 5-7 days.

Thanx

Smile Tour of the Roman Empire

Hi Liam
My favourite bits of Jordan are Hammamat Ma'in, Petra and Wadi Rum, but very western and relatively expensive. In Syria, very friendly people, also the most arabic. Hama is a relaxed town.
I see a girl got a transit visa for Libya in Tunisia, but Cairo is a different matter, so I would try London. Good camp site at Ras Shitan, 20 K north of Nuweiba. Also if you want to ride from Baharia to Siwa you need to get permit in Cairo, the other way is OK (permit in Siwa)
Good luck.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
