How long to drive across Syria/Jordan to Aqaba

From turkish border.

I'll be putting my foot down headng there (and taking my time returning).

Is it right that I'll have to cross into Syria on the Aleppo road to get a Syrian visa on the spot...... and also a visa for Turkey again when I come back?

Not sure whether it will ask your questions, but worth a read anyway: A ride from London to the Red Sea (and back) - ADVrider

Timing London-Aqaba

If circumstances and insanity demand, and in a car with a co-driver, it's possible to do London to Aqaba in 4 days without too much trouble.

It's not a huge amount of fun obviously, and on a bike would be a bit of a challenge.

Our itinerary last month could have been

Weds 23:00 My brother leaves the pub and heads for the channel.
Thurs 03:00ish Takes the tunnel, then France, Bel, Lux, Germany, Austria
Thurs 21:00 Picks me up at Vienna airport, then Hun, Serb,
Fri 06:00 Hit Bulgaria ( with abit of research, might have avoided Bulg)
Fri 18:00 Hit Turkey (after a few hours debating insurance with Bulg Police)
Sat 04:00 Pass Ankora
Sat 15:00 Hit Syria
Sat 21:00 Hotel in Hamma
Sun 07:00 Leave Hamma
Sun 12:00 Hit Jordan
Sun 20:00 Aqaba

Times are approx obviously, and we stopped for food, deisel and a couple of knaps when neither of us could manage any more.

Actually we took a day each for diversions to Palmyra and Petra, but didn't have time for anything else.

4 days is definitely do-able in a car, and 1-2 days Syria/Jordan is also quite straight forward.

If it helps, we drove from Aqaba to the Syrian border in 4 hours in 2007. As regards the visa - we'd been told we would be stuffed as we had not applied from the UK. But in the event, we fronted up at the border and were given a 14 day transit visa no problem.

Thanks for the info. I'm already in 'turkey so only the Syria/Jordan leg concerns me at the moment.

I think you can easily do it in two days. Starting from Syria (aleppo, let's say) you can easily reach the borders with jordan. Stay there for the night and next morning continue down to aqaba. From the borders aqaba is about 4-5 hours from the highway. Did it last year on a motorbike.

If you stop for a night in Aleppo, try the Baron Hotel for a beer and the atmosphere. :thumbup1:
