hi everyone...

just found this great place to discuss my passion  and found a lot of like minded ppl .... all around the place i currently live :thumbup1:

am in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after having relocated a few months ago from Bangalore, INDIA.

used to ride a puny li'l 180cc bike apart from a restored '74 Yam XS650 and some Royal Enfield 350s & 500s...

i will be travelling to Dubai for the new years eve ('07)and looking forward to my first ride after a loooongish 4 months without bikes:(

looking for ppl to help me out in Dubai...:helpsmilie: :helpsmilie: wrt renting out a dualsport and finding some nice places to ride... looking at a 950 or 990Adv as i'm planning to buy one in the next few months... my KTM dealer in Riyadh doesnt have a demo :(

Watch out

Unfortunately, I have never been in Dubai myself, but a colleague of me, who works in Dubai a few weeks each year, warned me about the traffic in Dubai. They drive like maniacs in their big SUV's and BMW's he told me, and don't care about traffic rules. He has been in a lot of places in the Middle East but Dubai was the worst.

As a biker you can't win from a big SUV so you should be very careful.

If Vicky has just relocated from India I don't think she should have too many problems adapting to the traffic in Dubai.

Dubai for NY

Hello Vicky,

I live in Sohar, Oman about 2 hrs from Dubai. I was going to come over there too for NY but will go to Muscat now as accom is too expensive.

Yes please watch them over there I saw 2 accidents on the highway yesterday on the way home from work. They go a bit crazy this time of the year.

I will get a new r1200gs next week here (they are cheap and the dealer in Muscat had 3 to sell to get rid of them 5200OMR)

Drop us a note sometime. hest01 at gmail com

Cheers
Ivan

hey ivan,

bikeless as i am currently, i finally drove my cage down to Abudhabi and then to Dubai.

I put up at the UAE Youth Hostel (at sharjah - 30mins drive from dubai centre) for a very resonable 50AED (dirhams) a night. The same hostel in Dubai city costs 90AED and was fully booked.

I found that the traffic conditions were normal (with my Indian and Saudi driving experience of course...) except for the narrow roads (compared to Saudi) and the ongoing metro work....

looking at picking up a 990Adv / 950SE shortly so that i can start riding again... and some day ride into Oman too... have heard a lot abt the place from my omani frnd here in Riyadh....
