Greencard & export from Dubai

Hi all, only 8 weeks to go before we depart on our rtw trip. Just a few questions:

- Greencard insurance for Europe; does anyone know where I can apply for this in the UAE? I tried to enquire about it in the UK but they informed me that as the bike is registered in Dubai we would need to get it here. If not, does anyone know where we can apply for this with UAE numberplates?

- When we leave Dubai we will not be returning at all. Therefore is it necessary to export the bike? (We have been informed that the only way to claim our insurance back is by exporting it)?

Thanks for all the help:D

I've never found any useful insurance here in the UAE for traveling abroad. I've always got my insurance thought ARISA (see other posts) for most of Europe and I've paid at borders (where necessary) for other countries.

Sorry I can't be answer more directly but the ARISA insurance is a pretty good deal at 22 Euros a month and you can have a scan of your policy sent to the UAE by e-mail and print it out in colour.

I have heard of such a printout being accepted at the Turkish border too (:innocent:) though it doesn't actually cover Turkey.

It's true you won't get an insurance refund from a UAE insurance company unless you show them a registration cancellation or export document from the police. I've just let it go in the past as a UAE plate was of more use to me than a refund. You don't have to export the bike if you tell the police that you want a 'siaha' document for tourism and don't mention you are not coming back. (Do that step before your visa is canceled!)

Would I not need an export certificate in order to register a bike in Europe after the trip?

No, at least not in the UK. I know of a least 2 bikes that were transfered from UAE to UK plates without being officially 'exported'. If you'd like a synopsis of the long-winded procedure send me a PM.
