Going to KSA

Hi all.

Newbie here.
I am a European expat and finished my contract in UAE.
Next contract will be KSA.
I would like to buy a bike in KSA and drive around (on friday probably).
How is the red tape in KSA ? Can I use my UAE license ? Is it best to buy a bike in UAE and import it or buy locally ?
Any practical info is more than welcome.

Thanks

Cycad

BMW in KSA

Howdy,

Depends on what kind of bike you want, but Tristar have a very good deal on K1200RS, '04 models, brand new, which around 50 people have bought so far. Excellent sport tourer for 1/2 price of new K12S.
Abdulrahman Al Mutlaq on +966 505440396 or aalmutlak@tristarksa.com

He has a BMW / KTM and more recently Moto Guzzi showroom, and a mainly BMW workshop.

Harleys very popular too, good value if you like them.

Others available but workshops not really developed, to put it charitably.

Not worth buying a bike and importing it, as far as I know, hassle and warranty etc.

Licence - it should be possible to exchange it for a Saudi licence, you need support from your sponsor's PRO but what you have would do to get on the road imo.

HTH,

Bin

Hi Ibn Ridin

BMW RS is fine. A GS would even be better. I could even drive it home after my contract. (in my wildest dreams even with a detour through South Africa)

HD is not my cup of tea.

Thanks for info, I contacted tristar and hope they will answer.

Hi Cycad

You are better off buying here. It will be more expensive than Dubai but the hassle of import and registration is not worth it, unless you really know what you are doing.

Tristar are a good outfit. They have the GS Adventure and KTM adventure bikes in stock and also import spares, gear and equipment. AbdulRahman is very helpful too.

There are some good trails around Riyadh. I'm sure you will enjoy the area.

+1 on what RedS said.

I am currently in the process of import a bike from Dubai (b'cos i got a good deal) and there is a huuuuuuuge lack of info :( about what to do, whom to contact and where to go for such an exercise. More so if you are arabic challenged, cos then u can't even talk to the guys at the Govt. departments (Dept of transportation etc).

cheers
vicky

It's because you are a Newbie (and cycad as it happens) - get a few more postings made and you will be OK with a PM; maybe as few as 8 are needed, I'm not sure.

KSA Visa

Hi guys,

Since I'm planning to cross from Yemen to Jordan through KSA at the beginning of next year, what suggestions do you have concerning the KSA visa? Everybody says getting one will be pain in the ass. I'm not an expat, EU citizen, coming from Iran and going further south.

Thanks for your help.
