End(ish) of super cheap diesel in Iran

Diesel, currently IR165 (i.e. about 1.6 US cents (!)) will be going up to around IR1000 at the end of March / April, according to people here in Iran. That's still cheap, but not the absurdly cheap old price.

Petrol will also go to IR3500 at the same time, and the ration cards will be abandoned.

I wouldn't miss those bloody ration cards, the number of times I had to hang about garages trying find someone with a card so I could buy some petrol as without one, most of the petrol attendants refused to sell me any.

Daniel, I take it you are Iranian resident at the moment ? If so for how long, we are passing though Iran around October and it would be nice to have a bit of local knowledge nearer the time :D

I'm not a resident, though I've been to most parts of the country, if there's any info you need about places, prices etc, just let me know.

hello
can anybody give me some (up-to-date) information about the price of petrol in Iran and if it is easy to obtain. Do you still need the card and is there less petrol in the boarder area with Turkey.
thanks in advance

Hi brend
I returned from Iran 3 weeks ago.
Diesel still 165 IRR wirh card, but no problem for us. You must visit petrol station with truck and ask truck driver for help. Really everyone will help you.
Diesel near the Armenian, Azerbajan border can cost 2 or 3 time 165 (owners of petrol stations make privat bussiness).
The cheapest diesel in Turkey I bought for about 2,3 ITL sometimes 2,5 ITL, normally 2,7 - 3,00 ITL.

Bartosz

I think he means ask someone at the gas station as they will all have the fuel card and generally most people will let you use theirs.

hello
thanks Mike and Bartosz. we will go there this summer and see if it works out. the only thing i think about is that they have only 100 liter per month or something like that and not waiting for tourist tanking 50 liter of their car. but we will see!

thanks
brend
