Dubai to India, ferry or flights - is it possible with bike?

In an attempt to avoid Pakistan I am considering riding to southern Iran and then getting a boat across to Dubai (Iran ferry ship, persian gulf shipping ticket, Travel Iran persian, Tour Operator Iran persian gulf, IranTravelingCenter ) and after a few days in Dubai getting another boat or flight to India

Has anyone got recent experience of shipping from Dubai to India? I see many threads saying using a 'dhow' is not allow/feasible.

Thanks
paul

Don't make life complicated for yourself. Road traffic is the greatest danger in the region, excluding Iraq and parts of Afghanistan. If you can get a Pak visa go for it. I travelled along the Afgh. border through Loralai, Zhob and Peshawar only a few months ago and had a great time. People there are super friendly. I sneaked past the checkpoints in Iran and only had an escort for the last 8 km to the border, so avoided all the hassles other travellers had.

Read trui_gaea's account of the ferry crossing to Sharjah...

i've shipped my bike from tehran airport to mumbay (2007). it wasn't a pain in the *ss at all. Sama rah cargo service was the company involved in it. it tooks me two days and 600$ as whole cost (bike crating, custom clearance, agent commision, ext.). i think you should to solve your problem in dubai too.

enjoy your road.

the solution: the cargo village near the Dubai airport
there are all shippers, agents (air & sea) and packers located in one building complex!

you go there with your bike, one day for paper and packing, and in 3-4 days your bike is at your destination...
(i've done it with marakesh express cargo)

Same question again!!

Hi all!!

In theran right now. I'm looking for some (cheap) way to ship two bikes o India.
As I'm not very good at english, please write as easy as possible.

I tried to take a look to this web site: Iran ferry ship, persian gulf shipping ticket, Travel Iran persian, Tour Operator Iran persian gulf, IranTravelingCenter._

But couldn't find anything to India. Prices are quite expensive as far I understand (Did I tell I'm not good at english?) and those are just for persian gulf. thanks for any information.

I dont think you´ll be able to find regular passenger ferries from the Persian Gulf to India. It is more probable that you have to freight the bike (by air or by sea) and get a flight for yourself. I think this will be more complicated than passing through Pakistan to India, but if you dont get a visa for Pakistan, then I guess it is the only way.

Especially clearing the bike from the customs in India could be a nerve-wrecking experience. And you WILL need a carnet for India.

Any recent case of anyone able to get the pak visa in theran?

beddhist 19 Jul 2010 11:22

If you are flying then I suggest Ktm or Dhacca instead of India.

Thank you every one!

I already have my pakistan visa and carnet de passage, but every body tells this is not a good time to go there.
Does any one know any web site where I could take a look to prices for air line freight?

Thank you again!!

If you already have a PAK visa then go! The KKH area should be fairly safe, safer than the road traffic, anyway.

Ok, heading to Pakistan, could I meet some one to go together to Ketta?

Thank you

Hi beddhist,

I took a look to your website and I was not able to download the GPS points for Pakistan.

I think they could be useful for me, is there any way to get it?

Thanks in advance.
