Diesel tax Syria

Has anybody overstayed his/her time of prepaid diesel tax? I mean you can easily extend ur Visa, but how or where do you extend the allowed time for diesel vehicles in Syria? I paid 2 weeks when I entered. Do you just pay when u exit, 2 more weeks? (1 week i.e. 100USD). Thanks

Diesel tax

Hi
You must pay during enter to Syria about 250 USD and also when you leave Syria about 200 USD. I was there 1,5 year ago and I paid totally about 450 USD for 10 days staying in Syria. It was together with visit in Jordan. If you need exact amount i will check my papers and send you info later.

Things may have changed since we were there in June 2007, but we were charged US$100 diesel tax on entry (plus other stuff for insurance, visas etc). We were told diesel tax was US$100 per week. We then stayed for just under 2 weeks, and left not long before midnight on the 14th day. They charged us a further US$100 at the border crossing and that was it.

Hi Ilsemark

So you paid basically 100 USD for the one week that u did not pay on entry? No further charges. So seems they charge on exit those weeks that had not been paid on entry...

Correct - at the time, we weren't sure whether we were going to stay 2 or 3 weeks and didn't see the point of paying in advance - or at all, for that matter - it's a ridiculous tax!
