Thanks Richard. That's clear. Did you get your visa at the border?

Safety in Syria

Good evening all, just had a mail from a friend working for UN agency in Damascus, relocated to Amman mid-august.
Amman - Damascus no problem if you leave, either way, before 15 hrs, driving in the dark in the M.E. is not a good idea anyway, now it's asking for trouble.
Any day except Friday, keep on the main road, no stops.
Unfortunatly, no info on other routes,

Peter, in Oslo

We just crossed Syria in one day entering from Killis. Absolutely no problem, safe for travelers (main highway, other roads I don't know)
No problems on border, just hide gps and big camera deep in the car, they asked about camera, I've show them camera in mobile phone and it was ok.
Not so many army presence as I expected, just one passport control in Damascus.

Agree, great news.

Neill, how are you getting on? I'm still yet to find anyone going from Turkey in early November. Also still yet to hear from this tourist agency "fixer" in Damascus. I'll keep everyone posted when he finally gets back to me

plan is to leave UK early to mid next week (slight delay). Last few things to sort out here and then we are on our way. We are still planning on getting across with Ronnie and the Sweden crew in December.

What date are you specifically planning to cross into Syria ?

Crossing Syria early/mid november as well..

Hi Uktosa an Neill.bird,
My girlfriend and me, Dutch, are planning on crossing Syria as well. We plan on taking one day, cross at Killis early morning and arrive in Jordan same day.
Are you interested in crossing together safety wise?

Michiel

sorry, submitted to quickly. we are travelling in a Land Rover Discovery and are planning to cross around, say 14th of November, circumstances permitting. At the moment we are still in The Netherlands though...

@Michielvv

I might be persuaded to cross earlier than the 10th December. We are currently cossing with Ronnie79 and his 9 companions in 3 cars on that date. Or there abouts.

14th Nov might be OK for us. We are still in the UK. In the spirit of overlanding and since Ronnie has a convoy anyhow we might change plans to buddy up with you and UKTOSA.

Can UKTOSA make mid late November ?

I wouldn't mind crossing a bit earlier, say 10th of November. That is probaly th earliest i could manage. Otherwise 14th would be fine.
I certainly would avoid crossing on a Friday, most protest are more severe after Juma prayer on friday afternoon.

It might help if everyone is a bit more specific. Which way your heading is one thing and your prefered date window. Looks like theres a few people heading South including Me, UKTOSA, Michielvv, Ronnie79

We are flexible on dates and are planning on leaving UK on the 24th, 25th or 26th and can cross anytime after that really allowing about 10 days to get us there. So we should be around that area 2nd week in November 7th to 11th November. We are in no rush and could wait for numbers and people following. Its also worth noting that I don't drive much faster than 95 - 100kph. Bikes need to be taking it easy if we're in convoy.

Who's for crossing South on the 10th or 14th ? Presuming we get everything sorted as either date is OK by me. I really need to be out of Europe by the 12th as my insurance runs out then. I'd prefer the 14th as that means we can take it easy.

Hi guys, sorry for the late reply, we've come across a few (a lot of) creases we need to iron out. I'm happy with the 14th, it'd give us a little more time to get ourselves sorted. We're planning on truly beasting it through Europe, its expensive going. If you pm me your numbers i'll give you a buzz onb monday, much better to chat on the phone I always think.
