Camping shops in Dubai

Hi,
While I'm resident in Dubai, I don't spend a lot of time there but am about to take a 2 week trip. We're planning on driving around Oman and the UAE and want to pickup some camping gear.

Can anyone recommend a good camping store?

Also, I'd like to get hold of a jerry and shovel (more of the damn things - I have a collection in the UK and US)! Any suggestions of where to buy?

Thanks,
Nick.

Ace is the place...

Nick
Most people get their camping and off-roading equipment from Ace Hardware. They have a range of reasonable stuff. I hear there is a ‘massive’ new one at Festival City right in front of the new IKEA. That is near Dubai Creek and the shops are signposted.

They definitely have jerry cans and shovels.

Thanks Stephano,
Living in the US, I'm familiar with Ace Hardware! Didn't realise they were in the UAE though. I'll stop by next week.

Cheers,
Nick.

There is another nice camping shop on beach road, Jumeirah. Basicly behind Union Co-op (Al Wasl). It is at a EPCO fuel station with a big Coleman banner in front of the shop.

A cheaper option is Carrefour at Mall of Emirates.

Carrefour

Johan is right about Carrefour. They have just distributed an advertising magazine with good prices on coolers, gas stoves, camp beds etc. but the offer runs from 5th - 18th October.

There is another branch in City Center, as well as one near the Dubai Creek Heritage Area (and one in Sharjah too).

Nick the place on Beach road is called Picnico.

Another place that has a bit of camping gear is Speedex on SZR, it is near the Ace along there.

On the whole the camping gear scene here is pretty limited, you can get it but the range is limited compared to the rest of the developed world.

How are you travelling, bike or 4x4.

Give me a yell if you want, we are heading back to OZ later this month and might be able to help you out with some gear whilst we are away.

Oman is stunning, just did a quick trip down there a few weeks ago and loved the place.

Post Camp gear / Oman

Hello Col,

I have just moved to Oman to work and am residing in Sohar. My work is close to the UAE border about an hour from Dubai.

I am looking to get a bike here or from the UAE and was thinking of a KTM 650 Adventure?? I have a R1200GS in Oz but I think it is too heavy for here? I would apprieciate if you or anyone knows of something for sale.

Cheers guys
