Buying in Iran
Just something that's still in the "primordial planning stage"....I was thinking of avoiding the long ride through Turkey (been there twice already), plus all the Carnet hassles, by simply trying to buy a bike of some kind in Iran, then reselling ,or maybe even dumping it there (according to initial cost) at the end of the journey.
Has anybody ever done anything like this? I know there are no bikes greater than 250cc, but it's not really a big problem for me, I did a lot of touring in the past on a PX Vespa (apparently they are are still sold in Iran) , and even one of these would suit me fine .... Hints or advice are most welcome...! If I'm the first to do this then don't worry....I'll write all about it next april... ![]() Thanks. Antonio |

Just discussed the topic a couple of days ago in Yazd, Iran. You should get the residence in Iran, probably also the tax number, in order to register it on your name. Alternative: find an Iranian who would agree to "lend" his name. Even if you find one, then you shouldn't dump it afterwards. Alternative: riding it unregistered: not a long-term alternative...

"Desert Soul" speaks the truth... (it was me who discussed it with him two days ago in Yazd). It's complicated to buy a bike here and ride it somewhat legally. But, where there's a will there's a way. (Who was the first idiot to say that?)

Same in Saudi
I bought my bike new and they had to have my resident details, letter from my employers and insurance before they would register it.
Now after saying that, when I was riding motocross the track was so near to where I lived I used to ride my unregistered crosser down the roads past police who didn't take any notice and many bikes don't have plates. Only a matter of time before you get pulled though. Cheers Ian |

I'll probably try the "registration under an Iranian friends name technique", good thing I have some contacts in Iran. Anyway, the trip is planned for mid april...I'll be writing here about my experiences, with or without bike....(but hopefully with!)
cheers and thanks... Antonio |
