any info on Yemen security/Anyone is heading that way from Dubai?

Hi guys,

We are just about to board on the plane to Dubai from Karachi. We are planning to stay there for a while and than head towards Yemen via Oman. Anyone has been in Yemen recently? What's the security situation there? Anyone is planning the same route around the middle of November?

cheers,

I'm planning that route for Feb 2009. I don't have any information that's newer than the report below.
BBC NEWS | Middle East | Belgians killed in Yemen attack

My general understanding is that the Hadramut region is the most risky area and the coast road is the safest option. I think government escorts would be provided for potentially dangerous areas although that never rules out the unexpected.

Drop me a line when you're in Dubai. It would be nice to share some info and plans.

You have to take and pay for escort for Ramlat-as Sabatayn aka Rub-al Khali Desert which is provided by ministry of interior. Desert is between Marib and Shibam.

When we were there (2003) we slept in Bedoun tent with bedoun escorts.

Infact it was told to me that, kidnapping tourists is not an act against tourists but is a way to find a solutin as forcing government against disagreement or problems between tribes.

It is true, if you are kidnapped they vehave you very well as a guest. You like it  at least the ones who were kidnapped says they treated ver well... and no cost too ;-) May be a good opportunity to know Yemeni people up and close.

Hadramut is the dangereous area though I think it is not dangereous as before.

Any news on the conditions/security in Yemen?

We are considering heading there in January/Febuary.

Just a side note, where will you be heading after Yemen/Oman??
Iran?

Yemen for AID

Been wanting to drive Dubai-Oman-Yeman and preferably back to Dubai through Saudi for a while. Been in the Dubai region for almost a year now and it's time to do a bit of riding. Will hopefully be heading to India and onwards in the end of Feb.

Are you guys in Yemen now? Anyone in Dubai who want to meet up for a drive? Stephano? I have my KTM 250 ECF-F that I ride in the desert now and then but not so many to ride with. Also would like to try the Jebel Ali MX course but have no trailer. :(
