Make a Difference Have you 'made a difference' while travelling, by fundraising or donating time and energy to a worthwhile cause? Are you a non-profit organisation or individual who knows of an opportunity for travellers to help out in a less developed country? Tell us about it and provide contact details.

doing good as you go

I posted this because I thought it would generate some interest by the proverbial fireside... I hope that the "shiny things" is the right place to put this.

Those of you who were at the Overland Expo last year may have already heard about our new charity called "The Muskoka Foundation" ...but in case you haven't, we are a non-profit group dedicated to working with Overland Travelers.

We have created programs and partnerships that allow you to "Use what you know, to do good as you go."

Essentially, we'll work with you to look at your travel Route, and find appropriate villages where we have a relationship with a school, orphanage, microfinance organization, etc - that would love for you to volunteer a little bit of your travel time to make a difference.

We already have villages being set-up in the South West USA (Native reservations), Mexico, South America, Africa (Rwanda, Zambia & Tanzania) and Asia (India, Cambodia, Thailand & Malaysia)

We've just launched a slideshow about what we do, and how you can participate. PLEASE, take the time to click on the image below and let us know what you think!

"From my own personal travel experience, I have found our trips to be 100 times more incredible, when we took the time to build meaningful relationships in the communities we visited. This is a great way to do that."
--Jay Shapiro, Co-Founder, The Muskoka Foundation

Thank you to all the HU members who have already signed up as "travelers" for future trips!

Cheers,
Brian

PS - If by any chance you sent your details in the past and never heard back from me, please submit a form again. It turns out there was something wrong with the site & we didn't know about it. SORRY!

Thanks to whomever moved this to the right place! I did not see this section until after I had posted it up.

Just so everyone knows, this foundation does not accept money from any travelers, it will cost you nothing to do good along the way, we will even provide all the supplies you may need for the course you teach!
Cheers

New to Horizons Unlimited?

New to motorcycle travelling? New to the HU site? Confused? Too many options? It's really very simple - just 4 easy steps!

Horizons Unlimited was founded in 1997 by Grant and Susan Johnson following their journey around the world on a BMW R80G/S.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
