Travel Writer/Researcher Wanted

The 4africa Foundation is looking for one experienced traveller to join our research team. Our goal is to publish cutting-edge travel guides (first online, then printed) of which full profit (100%!) will be donated to conservation projects in Africa. Although we are a start-up venture, we have over the past year formed a small board of directors and enlisted the help of dozens of volunteers who are helping make our dreams come to fruition. While we can't guarantee fame and fortune, we have secured enoughed funding to provide a 1200 US$ monthly stipend to one adventurous soul, for a minimum commitment of six months. As guide book editor, I will be based in Morocco, working closely with our writer who will start field research in January 2007.

Requirements: Candidates must have extensive backpacking experience in developing countries (preferably in Africa), be adventurous, have excellent writing ability and enthusiasm for Africa. A background in NGO work is a bonus but a keen interest in helping developing countries is all that is necessary. Candidates must be native English speakers, have exceptional organizational skills, be able to work independently, and conduct thorough and detailed research with an element of perfectionism.

It is considered a bonus if candidates have professional writing experience and basic journalism skills, speak Arabic or French, are great photographers, or have world-wide travel experience so that ratings can be compared on both a local and global scale.

We invite you to take advantage of this unique and fantastic opportunity to explore Africa while helping fund conservation projects. Please forward enquiries and resumes to the editor at dm@4africa.com.

Kind Regards,
David McLoda

Er...

This seemed too good to be true - and on further investigation it seems it is?

Couldn't find these guys anywhere - their website no longer exists.:confused1:

Anyone else know anything?

I fear these guys are just one of many trying to make a living exploiting the "conservation" issue for personal gain.

What! you're not back packing!!!

Seem to remember applying to this outfit last year and not hearing a word back; I've travelled all over (Africa & other continents but the Artics/Antartics) but it didn't seem to count

Umm ... what do they really want?!

Hold your horses...

The following link came from Mr McLodas public profile on the hubb. Now you can put a face to the name.

As you see in the gallery the mysterious Mr McLoda does appear to have some backpacking credentials.
Er, Mollydog maybe you should try the old 'light in the face' combined with a good dousing of cold water routine for your future interrogations. Difficult to do over the internet.
Having worked for non-profits and contract work for the UN there are all kinds of scams in the development/capacity building industry. Same as anywhere. Even if, from that 5 euros a Dutch granny gives at the mall, 3.5 euros gets spent on logistics, salaries, food/shelter, diesel, generators, computers and sat phones that NGO provides work for locals as well as its developmental objectives. Is an inefficient medical relief operation worse than no medical relief operation?
Cheers,
Cam J.
