Running London Marathon to raise money for VSO

Hi there,

We have been planning our RTW trip for eight months now, and have been a member here for 6 of them. If I enjoy the trip half as much as I have this time it will be a great trip.

As part of the trip we want to give back to society and hence will be raising money for VSO. Along the way we hope to visit several of there sites, and woud like to raise the equivilant to the cost of the trip for them. We estimate this will be approxiamately £30k. So far we have raised £195 So to get this moving I am hoping to run the London Marathon (I am not anathlete), and hope to raise some money this way.

To try and encourage sponsorship, and help us get to our initial target, we are going to donate 50p for every £1 that is given to us, up to a limit of a £500 donation by us. This way we will hopefully raise the minimum of £1500 that VSO request we raise to cover our charity place in the marathon.

If you would like to help out, or want to know more about our trip or VSO then please visit our website mentioned below.

You can donate securely online via

https://secure.justgiving.com/jennyandollie

Please also note that none of the money raised for charity is going on the trip. the trip will be totally self funded (hence the delayed departure date)

Thanks in advance to anyone who does donate - VSO greatly appreciate it.

Cheers

Sounds like you are doing a great thing in a worthwhile way - well done you !! When do you set off ?
The weekend of 20th, 21st and 22nd April will see a gathering from the GS club UK in your neck of the woods. It will be based at Treen and Porthcurno.
Accommodatiopn at Treen campsite and local B&Bs so if you aren't on the road already you should come by . There are a few hardened travellers usually there. I realise you are on 4 as opposed to 2 wheels but several of the GS crowd are also into their 4x4's and I'm sure they'll have plenty of interesting ideas and tips to share with you. I'm planning to get over from Belgium for it so maybe see you there.

Puff puff puff

Darn! I will be running the marathon that weekend, and I don't think there is any way to combine the two.

Have you been down there before, its lovely, and only a couple of mile from my parents in Lamorna. I love it down there, and once back from our big trip (so maybe ten years time) I intend to move back for good. We don't leave for the biggie until 2009, but this summer is our first tester with 3 weeks in Portugal.

Shame not to see you there, but if you need a local tips let me know ...

Thanks

Ollie

Marathon on Sunday

All - just to update you I will still be running the marathon on Sunday and am sh1tting myself (excuse the language). We will be continuing the fundraising for the next few years, but now is the last time you can sponsor me for the marathon. So far we are up to about £1400 donated and about £2000 pledged. Add to that our £500 and we are a quarter of the way to our target (of £10 000 with £20 000 of corporate sponsorship to come later)

So - if anyone has any spare pennys/pounds that they would like to see go to a good cause, we'd be very grateful

Our justgiving site is

Many thanks if you can help .......

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
