Thumbs up Ride Around New Zealand Feb 07 - Charity Event

Greetings all
For those of you that dont know us we are just ordinary average Kiwis with an interesting idea.

Carissa is 31, and I am 34, we have one daughter and we have to work together as a family starting with the very basics and work our way through this adventure through what we expect to have, many ups and downs.

What an amazing journey it will be, it will be a life changing experience for both of us, but to us the most amazing thing we can hopefully achieve is if we can help just one person improve their life a little.
We have never been part of anything like this, the closest we have ever been to anything like this is watching it on TV, but then it dawned on us, 'Why watch it on TV, when we can LIVE it?"

Please help Carissa and I in the FIGHT AGAINST CANCER.
8000 New Zealanders die of cancer related diseases each year!
We are determined and committed to reducing that statistic - but we need your help.

Carissa and I will Ride around the entire New Zealand Coastline on our Suzuki Adventure Bikes (DRZ250), raising money for The Hawkes Bay Centre Cancer Society and their Hawkes Bay Relay for Life event!
We are expecting this to be perhaps New Zealand's Greatest Motorcycle Adventure in 2007.

So why a Motorbike adventure ride?
We came up with the Riding for Relay for Life idea from a discussion of ways that could challenge us, and really appreciate what Cancer Sufferers must be challenged with every day.

So I can see you thinking "That's not hard to do", here is some facts to put it into a little more perspective.

1. "Carissa has never ridden motorcycles before, and I have only ever ridden off-road".

2. " We will complete the journey on 250cc motorcycles, not really made for comfort or long journeys".

3. " The Journey will be approximately 7000km, and we plan to complete this within 14 riding days (we will need rest days along the way)"

Now this is what we would call an epic adventure for us, we will be way out of our comfort zone (but really looking forward to it now), and that this is something that maybe just the thing to get others out and about and exploring this magnificent country we have.
The journey is not all tar sealed highways, we detour to places like the East Coast Lighthouse (New Zealand's most Eastern Point), Cape Reinga (Most Northern Point) and Ninety Mile Beach, Golden Bay, Bluff (Most Southern Point) , Danseys Pass and the McKenzie Basin and Molesworth Station etc, so there will be lots of rough roads and dust and dirt to contend with, not to mention the bad weather we also may have to contend with, but in all reality the things we are looking forward to the most is New Zealand's beautiful places we see and people that we will meet.

Please support us as we ride around New Zealand prior to the Relay For Life.
When we finish riding around New Zealand we then start walking in the relay for Life event.
Relay For Life is a 24 hour team event that raises funds for the Cancer Society of New Zealand. We are part of a team that will walk/run around a track for 24 hours. As well as taking part our goal is to raise at least $10,000 for our local Cancer Society.
We are making a financial and physical commitment to this event - and challenge you to match my commitment by sponsoring us.

You have 3 options for supporting us on this adventure, and we would ideally love to see you all on Option 2
1. You can sponsor us 1 cent for every km we plan to ride - $70 (7000km) - If you sponsor us for every km we ride, you will be mentioned on our webpage, as well as a personal update from us on our journey.
2. Now we would also like to involve as many motorcyclists with a sense of adventure as we can, before, during and of course after the event, so we are offering you the opportunity to 'tag along' on all or part of the trip. Visit our webpage www.rideforlife.co.nz for more information on how you can join us. (see attached poster)
3. We would be delighted to receive any contribution you can make.

Visit our webpage at www.rideforlife.co.nz for more information (currently not working )

If you are in Hawkes Bay, please call in and see us finish at Tareha Reserve (Carters Arms Park) in Taradale on the 24th February 2007
If you see us on the road in your area, please stop and say hello, we would be delighted to meet you all!

Thanks for your support, wish us luck and please pass this website link on to all your friends, family, suppliers and workmates.

Regards
Scott & Carissa McIsaac

You can have $70.00 from me, let me know how you want it sent.

Come on Horizons Members, support a worthy cause, it's good to see someone getting off their bums and doing something worthwhile. I hope this gets the ball rolling for you.

Good luck

Links not working for me, either. I'm using Firefox on Win2000pro.

A 250 is completely suitable, if not a bit large.

Hi Dave

Your right we are having a few problems with the website, hopefully all up and running within the week?

Yes I agree the 250 is a good bike, just not as comfortable as some road bikes, but thats why we decided on them, after all do Cancer Sufferers have comfort? Only from friends and family

Cheers Scott

Howdy all

The website is now up and running
www.rideforlife.co.nz
Please take the time to have a look.
The Tag along riders section will be open for bookings next week; this will include the itinerary for the trip.
This section will also provide the details and costs to tag along on this adventure.
There will be more added to the website next month.

If you dont think you will be able to tag along on a section of the ride, Please support us, by making a donation using the links on the website. (secure credit card payments can be made)

Also for those that want to assist us a little more, could you print out the Poster that can be found under the media link page on the website, and distribute around your local motorcycle stores etc
Every little bit of help that you can provide will help us immensely.

Regards Scott & Carissa

Donations

My $70.00 donation makes a grand total of $140.00. Here might be a lead for you. Try contacting Andrew Daddo at http://www.andrewdaddo.com/ and suggest as a fellow rider he may wish to get behind you and lend some support to the cause. And he does answer his emails. I recently read his book "It's All Good" about a motorcycle ride in America. It's worth a try, let me know how you go! Good luck with the target, you can do it.

Well we are less than 2 weeks away from the start of our ride for life adventure.

When we think back, we have come along way!! From never riding motorcycles, to riding what could become the greatest New Zealand Motorcycle adventure in 2007.

We have been riding a lot recently, some days about 500km a day in all weather conditions and on all surfaces.

The most amazing thing is the stories and emails we are receiving from around the globe with people living with Cancer.
Some of them are humorous; others are tearful and very sad. But thanks for all your good wishes; it is stories like that, which make it so worthwhile.

Please if you are in NZ between the 3rd and 24th Feb 07, look us up and join in.
Also please consider making a donation via our website (www.rideforlife.co.nz), I know we are a long way from some of you, but New Zealand is undertaking major research here into both Prostate and Breast cancer at Otago University, and have already made some good developments
The money will go towards the research so one day, we may all benefit from the fundraising efforts.

Regards

Scott & Carissa
