Does anyone have any Land Rover contacts in Ethiopia, particularly Addis Ababa or the north? A friend in need of gearbox help...

I don't have a number for them, but you could try here:

Many thanks. Landy limped gamely into Kenya this week where I suspect easier solutions will be found!

Hi! I want to help but I don't know anyone from Ethiopia. Anyway, why does your friend need a gearbox? Would you consider purchasing it online? I can suggest a few sites.

Many thanks for the offer, but it's been sorted for a while now! New box carried out as hand luggage with another mate. Got to make it look light at checkin! Turned out mainshaft (or was it layshaft, can't remember now) BROKE. So much for the replacement output shaft and bearings fitted in Yaounde 4 months earlier.
I'm a LR mechanic in UK so I've plenty of places to get a box here. The tricky bit was getting it to Addis Ababa without paying horrendous duties and shipping costs.
Moral of the story: Check the output splines before you go!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
