Valve Clearance - Help Needed

640 Adv 2004 Having a bitch of a time adjusting the valve clearance - well I can adjust the valves but how the F!ยง#~#} does one get the piston to stay at the top - ie the little mark or line on the window that indicates the top position. Must it be at the 12 o clock position? I presume it does, can only get mine to stay at the 2 o clock position which after adjusting the valves I realised is wrong.
Is there a trick to it?
Any info please

One way to do the job right, is to turn the engine with the kickstarter (take the plug out) and when the inntake or exhauts valves is down, you adjust the other. turn the engine again so that the valves you adjusted i pressed down and adjuste the other.

This way you dont have to worry about if you found the right spot or not...
