Angry Stuck waiting for parts??

Hi ther im currently in china with a KTM 990 adventre(06) and a fuel pump that has gone down..i have been dealing with justin @3d racing whom i believe to be working in my best interest..
but its been 9 day and no word of the pump arriving with him lone making its way to me..
starting to get more than a little board now.. plus my visas are going to need renewing if it takes anylonger??
any possitve advice on how to get things moving would b me than welcome..

I think you should be able to use just about any electric fuel pump to get you going again.

I'm with Bedhist on this one. Your bike should be a 12v. system. Electric fuelpumps power most cars. Try to get a spec. on the preassure they run and find one thats close, wire it in and see what happens. As long as you don't go too much over the preasure the stock one makes, what can you break? Even if there is a pump in the tank (who's the idiot that came up with that idea??), as long as fuel can flow through it. If fuel doesn't flow through it when its not working, make it happen, remove the diaghram, etc.

...here's a story! My brother blew the fuelpump on his carburated truck during a fishing trip. He had to remove the squeeze primer from the tank of his out-board motor and bodge it inline with some spare fuelline. To run the truck, he had to constantly squeeze the pump for over 200km, but it got him to the next town. Consequently, he has one huge forearm! As long as your near civilization, there's always another way to solve your problem.

Thumbs up Thankyou for your help im on my way again..

Last night no word of bits being sent..so was getting to the point were i was running my head through all the ideias and options??
woke up this morning and decided i have nothing to lose..and all to gain...so i totally stripped the fuel pump down to idividule components...the actual fuel pump is a sealed cartrige type..i wired that alone with out all the other bits or housings and filtters ect attached to it, and i could see it was energising but not spinning..
so filled it full of wd40 gave it a few hard but carefull tapps with a flat wrench handle and stuck a small part of my swiss army knife in and freed the impeller it felt a bit gritty so start with then few more whacks and wd40 energised it and hey presto..in up and running again...for how long??
Gave it a test ride..n.ok

10 days a load of hassle..
but the lesson i have learnt from this is just cos its got a warrenty doesent mean you should try an depend on it..

2 fillters on fuel pickup assebley all look ok gave em a wash out and all fine now thanks..going to take a flight to bajging and see about flyin my bike south cos parts have now been despatched..and weather is turning..cheers jake

Next time - some more information

Always try to fix thing .. you have nothing to loose if it does not work to start with. Never trust those 'not user serviceable components inside' thingys!

On the fuel pump - try reversing the electrical connections - get it to run 'backwards' to expel any thing ingested. Can get rid of some dirt that is stopping it. Hitting it with a hammer while the electricity is connected can also get it to go again.

The fuel filter should be after the pump.. only a corse strainer before the pump.

The pump probably has a pressure relive valve around 90psi. But the pressure is probably set by a separate fuel pressure regulator around 30 psi. The real selection criteria for the pump is its flow rate at 'normal' pressure .. any car pump will flow enough to supply a bike motor!!

Over it now, but good referance for next time..
i am a engineering service technician so should have just sorted it,
when i first found what was wrong, i called my ktm dealer and the way it sounded was the part would be to me in a week or so.
bike was safe had somewere to stay so i didnt pull my finger out..
so was realiying on help rather than using my head, when i got to the point that i thought i was totally stuck i sorted it ..
