Rear shock options

Heh experts,
I'm trying to get a replacement rear shock for my 2001 640 Adventure. Lots of Duke and 640 supermoto shocks available but I've been assuming they're are not the same spec. However looking at the ebay pictures, they look pretty similar.

My question is: What different KTM models have the same rear shock as the Adventure

Thanks

JT

list of choice

Hi there,

found a list to compare LC4 springs.
well the shock it self should be the same all together among the range of LC4, even the SM use the same as the ADV... BUT, the preload is set differently and the spring rate.

you are mention your LC4 2001.... well I can't see a reason not to fit a shock from a later model, it should fit easy as long as you don't use a PDS shock.

this list of springs is for all LC4: Enduro, Adventure, Super Competition, SuperMoto !

spring rate: use for:
50/260 for lite and short rider
56/260 STD on LC4 up to 1993
60/260 STD on Competition 1994
63/260 STD on SXC 625 2006
66/260 STD on Enduro 640 2006, STD on SXC 625 2007 or rider up to 75Kg
70/260 STD on SuperMoto 2006, Adventure 640 1997-2006
75/260 STD Rally Dakar, and STD on SuperMoto 2004
80/260 for big rider and or "lots" of baggage

I have a Enduro LC4 2002, and the pre-owner was a big boy, he had to fit 70/260, well he stepped up on from STD that would be 66/260 in my case, I'm a tale guy but just above 75Kg and this 70/260 spring is grate for me even loaded up for my trips with a 18L. fuel tank and 30Kg baggage, even a 2up with out baggage its well sorted.

I guess you can easily buy a 2nd hand shock with part-no:
(WP 0118W724....A) ANY non SM or Duke, and only need to adjust the basic settings.

out of my handbook:
Changing the spring preload of the shock absorber:
for weight approximatley 75Kg (165lb), one rotation of the adjusting ring is 1,75mm (0,07in)
Basic settings - spring preload:
WP 0118W724.....A = 23,5mm (640 LC4)
WP 0118W721.....A = 15mm (640 LC4 SuperMoto)
watch out the difference in part-no. there !

Compression damping of shock absorber: (top knob)
basic settings:
WP 0118W724.....A = position 6 (640 LC4)
WP 0118W721.....A = position 5 (640 LC4 SuperMoto)
watch out the difference in part-no. there as well!

Rebound damping of shock absorber: (bottom ring)
WP 0118W724.....A = position 7 (640 LC4)
WP 0118W721.....A = position 7 (LC4 SuperMoto)

I hope this is not to much of a tech thing and will give you a guiding to find a right shock... on the other hand have a look for OELIGS shocks they have shocks that will fit as well, the STD brand for KTM is WP (WhitePower)
