Needing help with sons 50 jr adventure
Ok I realize this is not really the kind of bikes you normaly talk about. But i'm hoping one of you out there have had this problem with their kids bike, and has been able to figure it out.
I have a 2002 KTM jr 50 adventure for my son. It will not take the throttle and boggs down badly to the point of stalling. It fires up very easily but will just not take the gas. I have had the compression checked a new reed valve, new plug, carb professionaly rebuilt and tuned. Airbox cleaned and a new filter. many different size jets tried, and still it will not take the gas???? ![]() Has anybody had this problem? Is this a common thing? Riding season is here and my kid is dying to tear it up and i feel bad i can't get any help from the mechanics. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Pipe?
It sounds like you have gone right thru the intake side, but two-smokes also need the exhaust cleaned out too. They get lots of carbon, and oil residue. Best way is to throw it into a bon-fire, if you don't have access to oxy-acetylene gear, which is the best way. It will need a re-paint, whichever way you do it.
Sometimes it's a mouse nest in there too, especally after winter. Regards Nigel in NZ

Got it fixed! Yay! Now my kid can stop bugging me!
As it turnes out the carb was missing some pieces. Go figure. Must have been missing the whole time, cause i never took this particular piece apart. it was missing a few things from the air screw! I cleaned this carb a few times thinking it was just dirty or out of adjustment. But i never took the air screw out of the main body. The guys down at RT 20 powersports in Oberlin Ohio USA finaly got it worked out. So those of you in the Ohio area check these guys out they know their stuff. And again thank you Nigel for the advice. It was a bit clogged up. ps love this site.

Ktm Usa
Just a quick ps.
KTM of USA is literaly right down the road from me in Amherst ohio. We dirtbikers live in what we refer to as the pumpkin patch. LOL I grew up knowing the Penton brothers who first brought KTMs to the states. I got my firts true motorcycle from John Penton. Hell of a man. They were originaly badged as Pentons. These guys and these bikes are top notch. We here in the Ohio area are very lucky to have the expert help right down the road. I'm looking forward to my next KTM. |
