Nearest Spares Centre to Holyhead

Can anyone point us to the nearest spares centre to Holyhead? We'll be arriving in from Ireland tomorrow morning and one of our Adventures is in serious need of a new rear sprocket, else it won't make London.

I've been on the net and see that there is a KTM dealer nearby in Colwyn Bay, but can't find any mention of any spares shops closer than that, although there must be.

Thanks

Geoff

Geoff,

I've lived in the area most of my life, and the sad truth is that Woods in Abergele is not a bad bet. There are a couple of smaller shops you could try including 'road and trail' at the top of the hill (four crosses area) of Menai Bridge (very unlikely, small, non KTM), or the dealer behind Tesco's in Bangor (a bit bigger but not KTM).

Your best bet is probably a dealer in Colwyn Bay (they often have desert prepped KTM stuff in: Colwyn Bay Motorcycles Ltd, Groes Rd, Colwyn Bay, Clwyd LL29 8PU, Tel: 01492 535959 ).

There is also a dealer in Denbigh but I dont think he deals in KTM stuff, he's mainly road bikes (and further than Colwyn Bay).

If you were really desperate and got to Woods in Abergele and they didnt stock your sprockets I know they currently have a 2002 model 640 Adv on a 2003 plate (I went to look at it last week). They may be prepared to take off the sprockets for you at a cost.

Other than that you're in Chester, Liverpool, Manchester.....

Hope that helps,

Dave

Hey Geoff,
probably too late now but for information HONDA rear sprockets fit straight on to the KTM rear wheel. I know because we had a rear sprocket wear right out in Mauritania .. luckily a guy with a Honday XR6 had a spare sprocket and I just bolted it satright on to the KTM.... all the holes and guides are exactly in the same place... in fact I'm still riding around on this sprocket.

On another note I dropped you a line about meeting up for a green laning session but not sure i got your email right.

cheers,

Simon

Simon,

On the subject of green laning, I'm planning a trip to Spain and France later this year. Can you recommend any trail routes through the Pyrenees? GPS points and map references would be very helpful....

Thanks,

Ian.

Simon

Thanks for the info Dave,
sorry for taking so long to feed back.

They ended up getting the sprocket from COlwyn Bay M/c.
The guys at the shop had a 950 on display and they very kindly took off the sprocket and chain.

Simon, just this minute got an email from Ian about the pyrenees. I'm very keen for sometime in June/July.

re. greenlaning, myself and Nick had a good session through the Salisbury Plains on Saturday. Thanks to Charles (braindead) who pointed us in the right direction.

Definitely join us next time, I'll keep you informed.

Geoff

Hi Ian and Geoff,
I'm going to be in the Pyrenees from mid July through to the end of August. We could meet up and I could show you some of the trails I know in the central Pyrenees and we could maybe explore a bit too.

I can put the two of you up in my place down there, or at the very least provide a good place in my garden !

Lets email about this ? mine address is nomiskx at aol dot com.

But, Geoff... can you email me some ideas about Sailsbury plain ? I NEED to gte out greenlaning and have no idea where to go... I've got some OS maps of that area so I just need some pointers.

On another note I'm entering a couple of UK rallies this year.. the Cambrian (which I did last year) the Ryedale and a couple of others as part of the Big Bike Challenge (bigbikechallenge.co.uk)... do you fancy entering as three person team ?

I have info for a greenlane route called the coast to coast which runs pretty much from dover to lands end over all the available boats and rupps. I'm not sure how they all pan out these days with all the new legislation but you're welcome to them if you want. They are in the format of A4 descriptive listings with six fig grid refs. I can scan them and mail them to anyone who wants them. Never ridden them myself, all a bit far south for me!! I also have listings for loads of other stuff in the peaks and yorkshire (but am always looking for more!).

I am looking for info on routes in mid wales, north wales, and the scottish borders if anyone has any.

Any info on routes in Spain (north or south) would be good. I know there is an off road route running west-east from portugal coast to spanish coast....anyone got the GPS points?!!!

Finally, I am also going to be around Mid Spain (lillo) for a couple of months in the summer. I'd love to head north for a while to ride some routes if there would be company. And talking of team efforts, I've been trying to get a team together for the Finnish 'all road tour', all year, any takers? www.allroadtour.fi

Cheers!!!

Dave
