LC4 Titanium Exhaust

Is it now possible to a street legal (i.e. with E number) version of the Akrapovic LC4 Titanium exhaust system?

Mack 30 Jul 2004 05:27

I do not believe it is, it is a pretty loud system. KTM has announced a new Akrapovic slip on that I believe has a Euro E designation, but I cannot see much of a performance increase with just this slip on. It looks pretty tasty though.

Thanks for the response. I saw the slip-on silencer on KTM's website and the whole system on Sommer's website.

It should be quiet enough for home where (here in the UK at least) noise is a big issue for dual sport riders. I'm more interested in the weight saving and the fact it should last a long time, rather than any performance gain.

But I'm led to believe it has a removable insert which could be useful for desert use or travel in other parts of the world (where most of my riding takes place) and it can sometimes help if pedestrians can hear you coming.

Most Akrapovics have the removable baffle, but I am not so sure the full system for LC4s does. Sommer KTM makes a db killer insert, it kills some low end power, but makes it much quieter. I would have concerns about traveling out of the first world with a ti exhaust, it requires a special inert gas rig to weld, so I assume repairs would be nigh impossible. It is an $880usd system that I have wanted for some time for my ADV but I have concerns that it will not clear the accelerator pump on my Keihin FCR-39 MX carb.

You may wish to check out Creepers LC4 exhaust thread at ADVrider.com he has been compiling the complete LC4 exhaust list for some time. At the same site KTIM has a write up on the Akrapovic and the Sommer db killer. Cheers, Mack

My cunning plan was to buy the new legal silencer and the header pipes available seperately in the power parts catalogue. Or, and correct me if I'm wrong, it seems that the complete system is available from Sommer.

I'm hoping not to crash sufficiently badly enough in Africa (or anywhere else) to require the exhaust to be welded.

I think you will find that the new E-legal slip on silencer has a different end/interface, then the silencer that comes with the full system. I am sure it could be done though, as I saw a SXC comp silencer that had been modded to fit these same Akra ti headpipes. (The owner did this to reduce the noise for touring in Europe.)

I am not sure, but I think this system costs a bit less here in the USofA then GB/Europe? Still too spendy for my blood, for now I will be sticking to my SXC Supermoto silencer.
