Ktm 520 Motocross for Enduro and Dual Sport

Hey,

So far all the bikes i have been posting about were bought before I could even buy them.

Anyway a KTM 520 motocross has popped up for handy money. It is a 2002 bike and has a bad noise in the engine but runs fine. I have no worries about rebuilding the engine as that is part of the fun for me.

My question is, I want an 525 enduro bike but they are too god damn expensive and hard come buy in Ireland for the right money. Is the motocross bike same as the enduro? as far as i can see the internal engine parts are the same but possibly a different flywheel.

I plan on putting a bajadesign light kit on it so that sorts the lighting out. Is there any trouble with these bikes as all i can find on the net is the enduro model but feck all info on the motocross model and its reliability and ability to do some road mileage every now and again if fitted out for Dual sport?

Regards

John

It's the same engine diffrent flywheel as you say no electric start and diffrent valve spring's. Main diffrence is the gearbox the SX has a 4 speed box but it is possible to put in the extra 2 gears. Get the electric start kit from KTM it comes with everything including stator and heavier flywheel.

I have done all these mod's and more on my 525 SX "rallye" bike.

Hey thanks a million, as for the valve springs these would be easy enough change. is the electric start kit expensive? have you done much with the 510 bikes? so the elec kit will basically turn my sx bike to an exc bike? must try get the cash reay so to try buy the bike

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
