KTM 690 Metal Mule System

We are going RTW on 2 enduros next June so we need panniers which are lockable , waterproof, robust, and easy to get on and off the bike. We have looked at all of the pannier systems out there and I actually went as far as fitting the KTM rack and Zega boxes but was not thrilled with the results. We have decided that for us Metal Mule in the UK make the best quality metal panniers which tick all the boxes and are perfect to match the KTM. The 'skinny' 31L and a 38L would probably be the best sizes for the 690. Motorcycle Panniers Luggage Systems UK - Home

We went down to see Paul Goulding at Metal Mule today and he is willing to make a frame for the 690 but says he needs a minimum of 6 sales to make it worth his while. Is there anyone else out there who would be seriously interested? Paul does have a distributor in the US (Seattle I think –company called BestRest)

p.s. The 690 is a great bike and we both love it. The AKRO made a huge difference to the performance and the FI snatchiness. The next problem to solve is the fuel - but we'll get there!

Take a look at RMS - Reinhard Guhr Rennsporttechnik and the various pages therein - particularly the 'koffer detailbilder' photos to see the quality of detail and workmanship.

Standard or custom built. Same gague ali as MMs. About half the price for standard boxes and mount frames.

Your specific bikes not listed but they are very willing and adaptable people. My Email was answered within hours - on a Sunday, in English.

Innovative too - look at the boxes for BMW F650 and how they utilise dead space below the exhaust cans. 38 litres each but no wider than the handlebars!

If you haven't already done so, if you post this on advrider.com (in the thumpers section) you should find many more takers than the hubb - for the 690E

Re: fuel, again if you haven't heard of them aqualine in australia make really good quality long range tanks for most KTM's. Not sure if they have one for the 690 yet but it'll only be a matter of time.

Cheers
Mark

update

Any updates on the preparations for your trip. I'm thinking of going RTW next year on a 690.

Aqualine now make the Safari front mounted tank for the 690E. I don't know about price and availability yet but importers should be getting them soon.
I imagine more than doubling your fuel capacity would help RTW!

KTM 690 Enduro / 690 Enduro R

Litres: 14
Colours: Orange, Black or Translucent White
Fits: KTM 690 Enduro / 690 Enduro R
Bolts straight on with stock seat
Includes: fuel cap, taps, mounting kit, fuel lines and fuel transfer plate
This tank will let you use your 690 as a true adventure bike, giving a combined fuel capacity of 26 litres. The tank fits on as an addition to the original under seat tank. It is straight forward to install and easy to remove and replace for servicing. There are taps to isolate the fuel in both tanks so servicing can be done without the need to drain fuel (fuel must be drained for initial instillation). This capacity over doubles the range (original tank 12L) and has been molded to retain the original KTM styling and look, and gives you a unique, comfortable knee position on the tank.
