KTM 690 Enduro 18000km trip
Hi All,
Just want to give an update on a trip myself and a friend complete on 690 enduros. We rode east to west from Magadan, RoB, Yakutsk, Tynda, western BAM to Severobaikalsk, Irkutsk, Ulaanbaatar, northern road to western border then back to the UK via various countries. The bikes were amazing, took a really beating and performed faultlessly. We did minimun maintenance on them, changed oil 6000kms, once with filters once without. Cleaned air filters a few times. The only problem we had was my friends started to have a fueling problem just when we hit the tarmac in Novosibirisk. It was down the the injector, we worked out a system to remove the injector and "clean" it usng carb cleaner and a slime pump (10mins). Worked for a few hundred kms and eventually for days. It will need either proper cleaning or replacing now though. I wouldnt hesitate to use these again for any kind of hard riding, they ride through anything. We upgeared then to 17t fronts for the tarmac and they were quite happy running 85mph all day long on the way home. Cheers Mark |

Good info - thanks for posting.
What mileage did you have on them at start and end of trip? What was your average fuel consumption like on highway, dirt and regular i.e. off highway but good roads riding? |

Mine is a 2009 R version had 5500kms on before we left and just serviced.
My mates is a 2008 E version and had similar on and was also just serviced. Think mine must have about 14500miles on now (over 23000kms). It needs a good service and a bit of TLC, so will take it to a guy I know when I have time. Fuel consumption, tough that as never really bothered working it out. Always had enough fuel on all the stages of the trip, I worked on mine doing over 400kms when both the safari and the rear tank are full. This was a conservative estimate, so would be over 45mpg but it does more like 55mpg. Mark |
