KTM 640 weeping crankcase
Have been offered a 2000 model 640 adventure with 15500 miles on it. There is little history but I am investigating claims of an engine rebuild by swampy marsh of marsh performance.
Other than the fact that the bike is clearly going to explode into a puff of smoke after 10 miles riding if this forum is anything to go by I have a direct concern relating to my potential purchase.....There is a weep from the crank case, not serious apparently.... Is this indicative of any obvious major imminant problems or just a KTM letting me know it needs constant attention? I realise this is a tricky question to answer! But, thanks for your time in advance. Dave |

You dont say where:
- between the cases, on one or both of the side covers, ánd at what position? Swampy is the font of all knowledge in the UK on 640´s. If it is a weep´it should be ok. Mine weeps from the base gasket after 34,000 km - Swampy rebuilt and tuned the engine at 1,000km. I am not concerned. Ask Swampy if he rebuilt it. - If he did - it should (?) be ok. - If he didn´t - ask him what to do. Hard to be much more use. Good Luck ------------------ Jerome http://www.fowb.co.uk |

Thanks for the info, I have looked at your website and thought carefully about your advice on KTM's. I have tried to contact Swampy about the bike but the phone number given in the links on your site doesnt work.
Is this correct? 01752667201 Many Thanks once again Dave l. |
