Has anyone had the need or have installed an inline fuel filter on their adventure?

When I rode my BMW from north to south and back in the Americas one of my filters broke early on so I threw both away. Two carbs on the BMW, no issues. 40K miles. Peru, Bolivia, Patagonia et al.
