620 overheating in traffic...?

Anyone have problems with their 620 overheating when having to slow down in city traffic? Have had the bike for years now but just now started venturing into the snarl of Central American city traffic and I keep overheating after about 15 or 20 minutes! Any fixes out there other than a small fan?

I have noticed the same thing on my 2000 640. However, rather than doing it in city traffic, it has the tendancy to do it in heavy sand, when in low gear and using plenty of clutch. On several occasions the radiator hose has also blown, although it can be replaced fairly easily.

Does anyone have any solutions, short of avoiding traffic or heavy sand?

Yea, I have the same problem in heavy city traffic in warm weather and very slow terain. I have a 2000 year model 640 Adventure USA version. I will try adding a second radiator fan this winter and see how it works this summer. I think that is where the problem lies.

Try using something like 'engine ice' or similar as a coolant. No mixing, 100% from the bottle. Also, check coolant level, the LC4 has a tendancy to lose a tiny bit of coolant, hardly noticeable in the radiator, but the few ml's make a diff. I used engine ice, top up of a few ml's about once a month and I installed a second radiator fan with the switch set to kick in about 10 degrees before the stock fan...problem solved.

Thanks for the tip about the second fan and 'engine ice'. Now if only I could find some in Zimbabwe.........

20/50 semi synthetic oil makes a big difference and a 2nd fan is an absolute must.a temperature guage would be nice as standard but there probably arent enough numbers to go that high!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
