Adventure 950 offroad & Twinduro Tires

Hello
I have always riden smaller bikes like KLR 650s and felt very confortable with on & off road, actiolly have always been a fast rider.

I now own a KTM Adventure 950 s and I am trying to do some off road with it but I am having alot of difficulty controlling the bike and feeling confidence to acelerate, becoming much much slower than I am riding a 650 bike.

I replaced the tires with Continental twinduro and at first I felt unconfortable riding fast on asphalt, so I put close to the max pressure 32 psi and handling became much better on asphalt.

Now on gravel or dirt I feel like I have no control and have to ride very slow. Alot of my trips demand alot of change in surface so I can not change the tyre pressure all the time

Any suggestions? Tyre pressure change? I have the suspention set up in confort mode.

Any other suggestions to dominate this bike better off road? I feel quite confident riding it on asphalt now.

Thank you,
If you can also send your reply to fborrero@macrovisionmedia.com it would be greatly apreciated.

Fabian,

I can't tell you what will instantly make you feel better, but try your luck with the following:

Set your suspension to the "sport" setting. It's much harder, but if that doent help, try leaving the rear as sport and soften the front rebound and dampening to normal or comfort. The idea is to track better into the sand or surfaces while providing you a solid platform with which to accelerate and put power down.

I also feel comfortable running the Continental TKC 80 Twinduro tire at ~ 38 psi rear and 32 front. I personally would not go lower than 25 front and rear, but try playing with those settings. Nothing bad will happen at 25, you'll just experience greatly increased tire wear.

Lastly, try not to get intimidated by the weight. The bike is indeed very nimble if you're not scared. Try to find a neutral throttle, or slighly on the gas. The rear of the bike should iether slide, or feel very light and glide through the turn.

I will email a copy of this to you as well. Good luck and let us know what helps and what doesnt!
