990 Fuel injection problems

My 990 has 14000km on the clock, and recently started giving a FI error code 49 Idle control motor malfunction. KTM here were told by Austria to replace the Throttle Bodies. This worked for about 4hours then the fault came up again. At first the bike seemed to idle fine but as the throttle bodies were replaced on a Friday I would have to wait until today to get it back to KTM. Yesterday being a Sunday I wanted to ride. On first startup the bike stayed idling at 5000rpm and would not come down. Took the bike to the petrol station to fill up. After second startup and bike up to operating temperature the bike continued to idle at 5000. Rode bike back home. On the third startup the idling came right. rode the bike for most of the day with no problems. Went to the local and after a couple of hours of standing the bike would not start. It would crank but not fire. After a couple of tries it fired but would not idle. I am going to try a cold idle for 20 minutes to try and reset the computer.
My question is, is there anyone out there that has experienced this same problem and what was done to rectify it.

In cars - 90% of the efi problems are connector releated.

I'd suggest you clean and check all the connectors around the 'black box' and your throttle bodies.

Test each wire as it entres the connctor .. while the bike is running - if it changes the 'tune' by flexing/pulling/pushing on one wire you may have found the source of the problem.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
