howdy, I have a 98 adventure I bought 2 yrs. ago with 1600 mi. I've ridden KLR's and this bike made them like a toy. This summer I took the junk edelbrock off and replace it with a kiehin, completely new machine, it can throttle roll a wheelie in 3rd. starts everytime hot or cold, which is important as if it does not start you might kick start it,
I like the dual super trapps but am looking for a set of singles as I have broken the pipes twice on some mining trails. I really like the bike but is not very comfortable doing long trips, currently looking for a GS BMW for long distance dual sport rides. one more important thing make sure the kickstand is set very well as about 25% of the time you come back to a bike on its side.

My friend Kyle's grandparents live in Fremont. We travel up US1 in the summer and visit then ride over to the Lake James area for fun!

When I bought my bike, the carb was already replace with a Mikuni. Not sure which Mikuni but I have just learned of to pull a throttle wheelie (manual) in 2nd. I can't see it happening in 3rd cuz I'm already having to sit way back on the seat and pull up on the bars to get it to happen in 2nd... How are you doing it?

Yes I agree the seat isn't very bumb friendly at all!

How many miles are on yours now? I have a friend who might be interested in buying from you when you buy your Beemer!

I can see the bike falling over...especially if it were slightly windy some day! My kickstand bolt worked it's way loose already... The bike was pretty unstable then and the kickstart lever are would not return home...

How do you service yours?

Does your tach light blow out?

What tires have you used? Which tires were your favorite?

I have a little bit of oil on the outside of the right side of the case by the bottom high pressure line...(see pics)

Does your bike leak from here?

Mine currently has 15,000 miles on it. Does have a slight "drip" of oil nothing to worry about. Careful tightening the oil plug on the frame 10mm. I twice undertightenend it and didn't realize it til there was oil on my boots, I have a freind w/ 620 Duke and he's done the same. I run Maxum 15-50 synth. oil, spendy but that's what my friend & KTM dealer sells, run K&N filters as the are half what KTM's are.
I run MT 21 Pirelli tires, they are very good tires for riding in AK as there are tons of gravel roads and mining trails. Not recommended for strictly road, I get 2000mi on rear and 4000 on front. On rides over 300mi I use an airhawk seat pad helps quite a bit. No tach light burning out. Has always been a very dependable bike, great fuel economy, very rugged except for the pipes, and kickstand. With a full tank of gas 7.4 gal. and loaded panniers it broke in half at a gas stop.
Does anyone know where you can find a single pipe conversion for the 620 Adventure? Center stand would be nice for changing tires,oil etc. Not possible with the dual pipes.
My folks live about a mile from lk. james.

Where exactly did your pipes break off at? I have noticed a slight crack developing on the right side pipe next to the weld towards the center of the support.

I am going to have a local welding shop touch it up with a fix, but I was wondering if there is any way we can figure out it's week point and fabricate something to make it stronger!

I use something similair to this in my VW Corrado by a racing oil filter company called Mecca. It also filters down to a smaller particle size (microns) and I hold it (Mecca) completely responsible for my supercharger having 178,000 miles on it and not blowing up (yet)!
Most people's superchargers on the G60 Corrado blew up between 80-100,000 miles.

The first time I used the "racing" filter it collected so much stuff that the stock VW filter let pass by that I changed the element (as recomended) with only 1000 miles on it.
They claim if your not racing, you can use it up to 15,000 miles with street use (or 750 miles if racing) before it needs to be changed out, but this (of course) is with my car...

This in conjunction with Mobil 1 fully synt. and I go about 7000 miles before I change my oil, then another 7000 miles and I change both the oil and the Mecca racing filter.

I understand that the KTM is a single shooter and the oil is probably getting worked a little harder, but I just wonder how often you really need to change the oil?

My service manual section in my KTM's owners manual says once a year or 3000 miles..., but I know synt. oils last longer than 3000 miles (for example with street driving in my VW Corrado)...

Ro I like the pipe conversion, I can't tell by the pic. is it single or dual pipes?

never used any other high-tech oil filters, other than KTM or K&N, like to change oil every 1500 mi. for hard riding or lots of dirt, but went about 4000 once. ordered the airhawk from my KTM dealer but I imaging most dual sport shops would sell them, I think it was about $125. my pipe broke right where the crossover under the bike is.
Another thing you might want to do next time you are working on it is run a spare cluth cable along the route the current one is. I have had to change them before and it's not real fun on the road. I buy aftermarket ones made by motion pro I think. I took a cable tie and made the bend going into the adjuster so it wasn't at such a radical angle and haven't changed one since.

Ro what kind of carb. do you have on the orange adventure? What kind are your pannier mounts?
I like the pics.

michael, just take the extreme kink out of the cable with a zip tie. pretty rudimentary fix but works. I've never looked at the color. olee
