690E Fuel Leak
Had my 690 for a couple of years now and done 6000miles on her, but a mate spotted a problem when out for a road ride last weekend.
After we had stopped for fuel and filled up, we had a squirt round some twisty roads and when accelerating hard out of slow bends, petrol was being thrown out of the back of the bike from above the rear wheel. This is not something I have noticed before, but was pointed out by my mate who was following me at the time, describing it as a 'cup-full' of petrol every time I accelerated. It only happened for the first 20 miles or so after fueling up, then seemed to stop. My feeling is that petrol in the tank (when full) sloshes up to the filler cap under hard acceleration and comes out of the breather that sits at the front of the cap. Has anyone else experienced this??:confused1: If this is the case, I can't believe with all the stuff I've done with the bike in the past, that I've never noticed this before!! |
Never happened to me. You supposed not to fill it to much (2-3 cm from the top).

I've had a couple of people reply on a post over on the UK KTM forum saying it happens to them too. The only solution offered seems to be the "don't fill the tank up too much" approach. When you've only got a limited range anyway, I've always squeezed the last few drops in to keep up with everyone else!
