640 adventure

Greetings from down under,

Was wondering if anyone has come up with a mod to protect or relocate the fuel tap on the 640 adv? I came off on a rocky trail and the tap broke clean off when the bike fell over (not going particularly quickly I might add) and a well placed rock did the damage resulting in me losing most of my fuel and the bike almost erupting in flames as the gas pissed all over the motor! I always thought the tap was begging to get ripped off but did nothing about it...be warned. O/wise fantastic machine!

Hi,

Before making my journey, I went into much discussion about that tap, and how to protect it in a manic conjested city with no driving rules, or going off road, or clipping it somehow. The only way we thought was to get an aluminium welder to extend the bash plate out and upwards, but this might be a bit untidy/wealdy. But we did nothing, took the risk, some plastic glue (to fix it back it should it snap off) and luckly nothing happened...

Regards
James

The power of the Internet! there's always someone who's done something unexpected...

Wish I'd known about this beforehand! Mind you - what would it stop? A Rock? A Car? The other consideration is what is better? A snapped fuel tap or engine damage?

The protection of fuel tap is great! But if we all use this kind of patents the overall weight of bike will be about 400 kg...
I have Adventure with many, many modyfications, but I still use my brain to low my bike weight. Today I cut off http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif the passenger footpegs...

Hi JNTaylor,
I´am one of the testrider for the protector.
It helps me in Tunesie last year very well.
I droped down in a stony canyon by round about 25mph. And it works! No engine is damaged, no fuel is lost.
