Off road KLR

I've been thinking of taking some weight off (the KLR that is) to keep up with the dirt bikes. And do it in a 'convertable way.' One idea is to remove the rear fender, rack tail light, etc. and fit a small plastic mud guard of some sort. Any other ideas? Baby gas tank?

Are you in the US?

In my opinion, I just don't see the parts you could remove amounting to that substantial of a weight savings. The engine weighs like 1800 pounds by itself.

I owned a `99 KLR 250 before the 650... that mutha would get airborne! I removed everything I could off of it, not for the weight savings, but so I wouldn't break them, and I bet it didn't amount to 10 pounds.
