Klx250 Help To Derestrict Please

Hi all
I have just recently returned to England from Germany on my KLX250,fuel injected model, 2009 reg.It was a great trip and the bike did fine however
it will not rev out above 7-8000 rpm so it seems a little restricted.Aftermarket parts seem expensive such as a power commander and performance exhausts, does anyone know how to improve top end speed without spending lots of cash...

Hi I dont have an EFI model (2009 AUS model), BUT I can tell you all the things kawa have done to restrict it..

1. Check the throttle cable where it connects to your throttle bodies, it's likely there is a screw that actually stops the butterfly from opening fully. Turn throttle and see if anything stops it premature (they did this to carb models).

2. Exhaust is very restrictive... I got powerbomb headers as well (they are bigger diameter and lighter)

3. Now check airbox inlet - chances are its a tiny inlet into the airbox. Many klx owners replace the stock snorkle with a kdx200 one, or just pull it out and cut a larger opening. This is mostly responsible for poor performance.

4. Remove backfire screen from behind airfilter

5. Last thing is fuelling (carb was easy - it needed a rejet), but EFI I have heard has issues becuase it is not very easily remapped. I could be wrong, google it...

Hi Thanks for the advice,i have gained more midrange power by increased
rpm by unpluging the speedo cable for a short ride this has cleared some of the restrictions in the ECU.The speedo cable/sensor is then reconnected but
the ECU unit will retain the new map and more midrange power.
cheers

klx 250 derestricting

HI
i was a little dissapointed with my klx too. After a few simple mods it will now show 85mph on speedo and revs quite freely.
1 KDX220 air filter snorkle (£20)
2 13t front sprocket (£15)
3 simple ecu mod dead easy to do cost nothing to do
bike has done 3500 miles since mods and have had no problems.
Any info needed please contact me Regards Simon.
