klr650 on the road in mex -2 urgent qq please
 

In mex city having fun avoiding all the roadblocks, a-la-pavement, or sidewalk to any american readers.. 2 quick questions hopefully someone can help me with ASAP.

q1> my indicators have started coming on but not flashing, when i want to use them. i'm guessing this is the flasher relay, but have no bloody idea where the thing is and haven't managed to find it on the web. any help please? 2004klr650

q2> where can i get a good rear tyre as mine is nearly bald. in guatemala? so surprised at how fast mine has been eaten up, particularly after good hubb reviews. it's a metzeler distanzia. looking for equivalent or even more able in s. american shoddy roads

yep you´re right, avon distanzia. being dizzy. since last night been having a seriously inconvenient case of D&V which isn´t much fun, so not up to a full reply right now. thanks for all the info though. i´ll check it out when i can stand up without getting dizzy!

Alex, usually the easiest tire to find in Central/South America for the KLR is the Pirelli MT60. It's a good dual-purpose tire - so great for the terrain down there, usually pretty cheap, and lasts long enough. I've run a few pairs of them and been pretty happy with the ride results.

As far as the blinkers, do both the front and rear light stay on, or just one or the other? If it's just one, it means that the other bulb is burnt out. It's the way of letting you know to change the other bulb. If both front and rear lights stay on, then yeah, you'd need to follow the wiring and see if there's a problem along the way.

There are several places you can try for tires. Motomex on the corner of Viaducto and Monterrey is a good choice. Motos Gamboa on Eje Central about 5 blocks after Viaducto. If you need more help give me call 58103447 (Home) pr 91186565 (mobile) or 5005-2035 (work)
If you need a doctor also give me call my neighbour is a doc. and doesn't charge much. You could also go to A Farmacia Similar where they have doctors who charge $20 pesos and you then buy the medicine from them at a much lower price.

garry, you're a diamond -bet you've never heard that one before, eh? eh?? went to motomex and got myself a michelin t66, albeit at 1700pesos.. yikes.
the relay WAS the problem and the nice mechanic at the 'taller' /workshop across the viaducto from motomex said he didn't have one but would i like the one from his own bike, since i was in a hurry?! pulled it out of his own machine, tested it on mine, and said he'd buy another for himself soon. if that isn't damn hellishly cool i don't know what is.

with regards to my illness i actually already had a d+v remedy, from an american doc before i set off. it is some antibiotic that you take one every 12 hrs til the symptoms disappear, and today already i was able to go out to the kawasaki dealer! so it works. can't remember the name, and it's packed again now. maybe i'll add the name to this post at a later date

just to answer my own question for anyone else looking for the flasher relay in a klr650, it is at the front of the fuel tank, hidden down just above the top of the coolant bottle. quite deeply 'in there', it is a black rectangular block, unlike circular car flashers, and about an inch and a half long. to get at it the mechanic had to take quite a few bolts out. hope that helps someone, someday.

some to do with water is my guees as i washed my klr after coming back from prudhoe bay and the back blinker stopped working ,has not come good after two weeks and it aint the globe ,the tank needs to come off to get to everything and i am too lazy

Re : anti diarrheal medication. Before starting a next trip where the poopsies may be a problem visit your doctor or a travel medicine clinic and ask for DUKORAL. It is an easy to take oral vaccine, two small doses taken a week apart and at least one week prior to risk exposure. For most people it will prevent getting travellers diarrhea for up to six months and it also protects against cholera for 2 years. For subsequent trips within 5 years a single booster dose provides continued protetion.
It does not protect against other parasites or contagious diseases so don't forget about demanding hygienically prepared food.
Having used DUKORAL for several years now I can vouch for its effectivenes against Montezuma's Revenge. For people with a very sensitive gut who would be totally wiped out by a bout of TD DUKORAL may not be 100% effective but a fellow traveller fitting that decription did report that the symptoms were vastly reduced to merely some belly rumbles and no panic trips to the latrina.
