KLR650 oil thirsty

I apologise if this has been covered but I just want some ideas on why my KLR might be going through the oil. It took almost 1.5 litres after 3000km. I had been sitting on about 90-110km (on paved roads) sometimes with a strong head/side wind but it´s not smoking and I can´t find an oil leak. It´s still going through the oil now, on ripio (although my fuel consumption is fairing a lot better). Is this normal for a KLR? I admitt my bike is fairly new to me so I´m not that familiar with the little details like this.

Thanks for adivce and help.
Michelle

p.s. By the way, I have to say my KLR650C has been an amazing bike and besides bucking me off once when it did a sommersault, after which it just got back up (Quicker than i did and with the help of two large guys) and kept going, I am now an avid fan.

Thanks for the advice. It shouldn t be too worn as its only got 25k on the clock. I wont mention when I checked the oil, it was a bad, bad thing. No wonder she bucked me off!
Im using 20-50 oil at the moment. I was using a semi synthetic but have changed to regular oil as it seems to have a bit more choice available down here.
I did wash her to look for oil leaks but I will look at those points you mentioned when I get to somewhere off the ripio for a bit.
Thanks again.
Michelle

Mine has 22k, and very little oil usage, Michelle.
