Klr650 From USA to Ireland

Hey,

I am considering buying the pre 2008 klr650 for an adventure bike and was considering getting the bike in USA and shipping it over here. I know a lad i trained with did a trip from Alska on one and had his ferried home and was pretty cheap. Only trouble is I am trying to do this over the water and get it shipped over with out having to travel all the way over. Any one ever doen this to the Uk or even Ireland?

John

John,

Are you planning on registering it abroad, or in Ireland? You'll pay import duty, VAT, registration tax and all that other nasty stuff if you haven't kept and used it abroad for a min of 6 months before importing it..

Here's a page that covers some of the details..

You'd pick one up in the UK.. people seem to view them as an unfashionable bike here now, cos they've been superceded by stuff like the Versys.. I can't complain.. I've picked up 2 for less than £2000.
